Environmental portraiture captures a subject in the context that defines them — a farmer in their field, a craftsperson at their bench, a scientist in their lab.
Unlike a traditional headshot, which is more restrained with a neutral background (think Linked in usage), environmental portraiture treats the surrounding space as part of the story: the light falling across a workshop, the tools of a trade, the quiet particulars of a life or vocation.
The result is a portrait that speaks not just to likeness, but to identity — who someone is, situated in the place where that identity is most visible.

Brand photography looks to environmental portraiture which captures a subject in the context that defines them — a farmer in their field, a craftsperson at their bench, a scientist in their lab.
We create a visual series; portrait, detail, moments to capture a person and their business through a visual narrative.
This is the classic example of “don’t tell me what you do, show me.“ Brand photography allows the owner to bring viewers into their brand in lush detail. The resulting 4-6 photography story that speaks to identity of the owner and experience of the brand itself.

Family documentary brings my extensive documentary experience with the AP, Washington Post, Boston Globe and others to your family. Together we capture real moments for you to cherish.
A family documentary session captures real family moments, unposed as they naturally happen — rather than those that occur from directing people into posed setups.
I join your family during a normal period of time — playing, cooking a favorite meal, evening bedtime, getting ready for school, a weekend at home. I will give no direction, my goal is to fade into the background.
Sessions are often longer than a typical portrait shoot (sometimes 2-3 hours, or even a full "day in the life") to let people relax and forget the camera is there. It is great to have an activity or routine planned ahead of time so you can go about your day.
Priced upon request ($1,000–$2,500, for session fee and selected digitals)
