FINE ART x DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY - BEYOND BOUNDARIES
AND ARTISTS LED PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP - RETHINKING THE PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE
WHAT MAKES AN IMAGE POWERFUL? WHAT GIVES IT MEANING?
Explore where fine art and documentary photography intersect. Through creative dialogue and personalized project critiques, challenge familiar ways of seeing and discover new directions in your work.
NOT ABOUT CAMERA TECHNIQUES.
ABOUT VISION AND INTENTION.
Some of the most compelling photography lives in the space between the two genres, and the divide has only become softer in recent years. And what could this open up in your own work, whether you identify as a fine arts photographer, documentary photographer or neither?
Gohar Dashti, a renowned fine art photographer, and Julianne Gauron, a published documentary photographer and photojournalist, create images from opposite sides of this divide, but both draw on the other discipline.
Gohar and Julianne will discuss their work, influences, and processes. Together we will explore the genres and prominent photographers who straddle the divide, empowered by the freedom to expand their practice beyond boundaries.
As a class, we will apply this lens to the projects of each student, to expand the potential of the project, get it unstuck, or gain guidance/feedback from practicing instructors in a small group setting.
