I had the great honor of meeting Micah Fink and some of his team while they were at the Big Sky rodeo raising awareness for Heroes and Horses, which is located in Manhattan (Montana that is.)
Already a huge fan of what they can do, and hooked by their beautiful social media presence, it was awesome in person. Heroes and Horses is a 3 phase program for veterans which Micah, himself a vet leads Stress Inoculation, Application and Integration. Veterans come for hard work and the horses lead the way, just as in life there are challenges and ups and downs, but the Heroes and Horses motto is "we are not defined by our many scars, but what we do after they heal."
I look forwards to volunteering with them and taking part in the rowdy volunteer Friday rides very soon, Micah said he has just the horse for me! (Oh boy ;)
Check out their facebook page as there are often grants and causes which you can vote on to support them in raising funds, veterans never have to pay for the training, so any support, voting or volunteering, or donating, is most welcome!
Also check out the phenomenal video and article by horseman and film maker Ben Master's about his ride with veteran Ray Knell "a Backcountry recovery in Yellowstone: Wilderness, Wildness and Warriors."
