Mia was not clear on why this moment at the Big Sky base yesterday was so awesome. Let me explain since she wasn't that interested-it was about 120’ warmer than one of the last times I was up here on snow!
That is to say that it was -56 on a brisk February day and yesterday was gorgeous October shorts weather at 62' - a gift up here this time of year. God's country indeed, with all the extremes!

I hope to swim here late next summer when the waters low once again, and a bit warmer. Right now the chill off of the water in the river drops the air in the canyon by double digits. But it is a beautiful little oasis of silence.

Not quite like finding a squirrel in your yard - Mom and her calf! I am also very glad to find it is them & not the dumpster bear who has been pooping here.
As the quietest season here animals are exploring town boldly and a bear has been going through the few not bear proofed dumpsters (fair enough) and also letting himself into the cold storage at the bakery in town and eating all the dough! I was thinking what a happy bear until someone point out when the dough rose he would be a very unhappy bear. But he returned, so it couldn't be all that unpleasant and the bakery pastries are tasty.

I am grateful but sad as I count down my sunsets here. Being an ocean goer born and bred, I had never realized mountain skies are just as dynamic as those over the ocean. I am smitten well and truly.
